The Huffington Post Links Flint, MI Water Crisis to The Brown Agenda

On 03, Mar 2016 | No Comments | In Event | By admin

Ben Barber has been a journalist and photographer for 30 years for the London Observer, LA Times, USA Today, United Press International, the Washington Times, the Christian Science Monitor, and many other news outlets. He also served as senior writer for USAID.

In an article published in today’s Huffington Post, Mr. Barber aptly compares the current water crisis in Flint, Michigan to instances of pollution worldwide as covered in “The Brown Agenda,” Damon’s book with noted environmentalist and entrepreneur, Richard Fuller.

The Brown Agenda was published in August 2015 by Santa Monica Press.

Editor at Scientific American Endorses The Brown Agenda

On 26, Feb 2015 | In Non-Fiction Book | By admin

David Biello has been covering energy and the environment for nearly a decade, the last four years as an associate editor at Scientific American. He also hosts 60-Second Earth, a Scientific American podcast covering environmental news, and is working on a documentary with Detroit Public Television on the future of electricity.

David recently offered this testimonial on The Brown Agenda, Damon’s forthcoming book with Richard Fuller, Founder and President of Pure Earth/Blacksmith Institute:

“There are few more important stories than how we humans foul the planet and ourselves, often heedlessly. And there are few better placed to tell that tale than Richard Fuller, who has been working for years to show how we can—and, more importantly, should—clean up the earth. The Brown Agenda is the story of an important humanitarian cause revealed in clear and concise prose that is at once deeply necessary and deeply satisfying.”

—David Biello, Editor, Environment & Energy, Scientific American

The Brown Agenda will release to bookstores everywhere in August 2015.

Two Covers, One Month

On 30, Jan 2015 | No Comments | In Event, Non-Fiction Book | By admin

Covers for two of Damon’s books were released in January. The first was the cover for
“The Brown Agenda,” Damon’s collaboration with Richard Fuller, Founder and President of Blacksmith Institute/Pure Earth, the NGO that’s doing such incredible work fighting jaw-dropping instances of pollution all over the world. The book features a foreword by Bryan Walsh, senior environment editor for TIME Magazine, and the cover looks like this:

The second cover is for the German edition ofThe Actor’s Art & Craft,” Damon’s first collaboration with Bill Esper. The book features the original foreword by David Mamet, plus a specific foreword for German readers. That cover looks like this:

KunstUndHandwerk

Evidently, vast differences exist between the German and American-Meisner-based concepts of acting. For instance, as the foreword to the German edition points out, Germans often use a word that translates as “pretend-playing” where, in English, we use the word acting.

This is “a huge difference,” writes the German translator, André Bolouri. “The German word Read more…

Slumdog Millionaire Endorses “The Brown Agenda”

On 22, Dec 2014 | No Comments | In Non-Fiction Book | By admin

Most of the world knows Dev Patel for his role as Jamal Malik, the intrepid kid from Mumbai who survived a life of poverty to win the grand prize on a quiz show in Slumdog Millionaire. The film, directed by Danny Boyle, earned eight Academy Awards in 2008 and made Patel the de facto poster child for underprivileged peoples in developing nations across the globe.

What most people don’t know is that Patel lends his star power to support a variety of worthy causes, not the least of which is Richard Fuller’s Blacksmith Institute/Pure Earth. You can read about Blacksmith’s amazing work in Damon and Richard’s book, “The Brown Agenda,” due in stores August, 2015.

Blacksmith/Pure Earth recognizes that our world can be a dirty place. Toxic pollutants such as lead, mercury, radionuclides, chromium 6, and many more kill 1 out of 7 people worldwide each year. In fact, statistically, the number of people affected by pollution is greater than the number of people affected by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. Yet pollution is one of the most under reported and underfunded health hazards in the world.

Bound for Indonesia

On 12, Jun 2012 | In Event | By admin

In the United States, everyone talks about going green, but in other places around the world, sites exist where green is a fantasy. First you have to deal with the ‘brown’ problem. You have to deal with the dirty, filthy trouble that kills several million people a year, and which — if left unmitigated — will only worsen as years go on.

Did You Know?

In the Zambian Copperbelt, a plot of land the size of two hundred football fields stretches beside the town of Kabwe (population 200,000). Nearly every inch of the plot is lead by-product from Read more…
